Prof Jose Maria Valderas

Head, Department of Family Medicine

Prof Valderas is Professor of Medicine at National University of Singapore and Head of the Department of Family Medicine at National University Health System.

His research focuses on the use of patient reports on their health and care for health policy decision-making and clinical practice, and the evaluation and improvement of quality, safety, and outcomes of Primary Care. He is particularly interested in models of care that meet the needs of patients with multimorbidity. Prof Valderas is devoted to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching that meets the needs of the future health and research workforce.

Prof Valderas has worked as a General Practitioner in the UK, Spain and in a variety of environments, including developing countries. He is Field Chief Editor for Frontiers in Health Services. He has also provided regular expert advice to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD). He is proud to have been elected by his peers to serve as Chairman of the Working Party on Quality & Safety, World Organisation of Family Doctors (WONCA) in 2021 and previously as President of the International Society for Quality of Life Research (2017-2019).
