Prof Christian Mallen

Prof Mallen is Head of the Keele University School of Medicine, Director of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research, and a practicing General Practitioner.

His main research interests focus on trying to improve the diagnosis and management of common mental health and musculoskeletal problems. He has published more than 230 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals including the BMJ, JAMA, Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases and PLoS Medicine and has received more than £30 million in external grant income.

Prof Mallen is committed to developing academic capacity in family medicine, leading both the NIHR School for Primary Care Research capacity development programme and the Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD Programme for Primary Care.
