Prof Les Toop is Emeritus Professor of General Practice at the University of Otago, Christchurch and remains in active general practice. In addition to teaching at all levels, he has an extensive publication record including many studies to inform clinical practice and to trial innovations in place of care. Through his long-term involvement in the leadership of organised general practice groups particularly Pegasus Health, Prof Toop has been closely involved in many of the innovations within Canterbury over the last 30 years all aimed at promoting the integration of care and the development of systems to improve electronic communication and referral throughout the health system. He has held many clinical leadership, advisory and governance roles in health organisations both locally and nationally. He sits on the alliance leadership team of the Canterbury Clinical Network and the Executive of General Practice New Zealand.
